Beta-catenin protein is a cell adhesion molecule that forms catenin-cadherin complex through binding to epithelial cadherin (E-Cadherin) protein at juxtamembrane sites. Beta-catenin protein is normally found in the cytoplasm at a submembranous location, but mutations in the beta-catenin gene can result in nuclear accumulation of the protein as has been demonstrated in fibromatosis lesions and in colorectal carcinoma.
Intended use
Anti-beta-catenin antibody is useful for diffenrentiating fibromatosis (desmoid tumor) from other fibroblast like lesions in various locations, including breast and mesentery, and for identifying colorectal cancer when used with a panel of antibodies
