Factor XIIIa is a blood and intracellularly produced coagulation factor, which is widely expressed in a variety of cell types, including dermal dendrocytes in skin. These bone marrow-derived cells are located
predominantly in the papillary dermis at the dermoepidermal junction.
Intended use
Elevated numbers of Factor XIIIa positive cells can be found in cutaneous inflammatory conditions such as lichen planus and psoriasis. In tumor pathology it is main application is to help distinguish immune-phenotypic differences between dermato-fibromas and numerous other fibrohistocytic entities, most notably dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, when used with a panel of antibodies
