MUM1

Multiple Myeloma Oncogene 1 (MUM1), also known as interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4), is necessary for the development and activation of B-cells. MUM1 protein is expressed at the later stages of B-cells development and can be demonstrated in B-cells in the light zone of lymphoid germinal centers, plasma cells, a subpopulation of activated T-cells, and some melanocytes. B-cell lymphomas, myelomas, and some melanocytic tumors.

Intended use

Tissue-Tek Genie® anti-MUM1 Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody [EP190] is useful for classifying lymphomas and identifying plasma cell neoplasms when used with a panel of antibodies.

Assessment criteria
A strong, distinct nuclear staining reaction of virtual all plasma cells in lamina propria of appendix
A moderate to strong and distinct nuclear staining of late stage germinal centre B-cells and plasma cells in the tonsil
A weak to moderate, distinct nuclear staining reaction of dispersed mantle zone lymphocytes in the tonsil
No staining reaction in other cellular structures including epithelial cells and smooth muscle cells of lamina muscularis propria of appendix
*A weak cytoplasmic staining reaction is accepted in the cells with a nuclear staining for MUM1
